Singing and Dancing and Awarding

Hugh Jackman is wearing a mircophone headset. Does this mean he's going to sing and dance again?

Yes. Yes it does.

And it's not just him. It's a huge musical extravaganza! I love it.

I think it's won over Danny and Mark as well. They're being nice about him now. Stephanie Beacham does not agree. But she's being moody and negative about pretty much everything, so who cares what she thinks.

Ah, Best Supporting Actor. Arguably the most significant award this year. And we all know why, so… here are my thoughts on Heath Ledger:

I think he should win it. I know a lot of people don’t want him to because many will say he only got it because he died, but I don’t think that should matter. His performance was amazing, definitely Oscar-worthy, and to deny him an award that he deserves just because of what people will say is far worse, in my mind.

(Having said that, there is a small part of me that would be amused if he didn't win, simply because people are talking about who's going to accept the award and who will keep it as though he's already won.)

And the Oscar goes to... Heath Ledger.

I am pleased.

Best Documentary - Man on Wire

Best Documentary Short (Another one we didn't bet on, but I feel obligated to report it anyway) - Smile Pinki.

Claudia Winkleman just said that Hugh Jackman looks like Richard Madeley. I may have to hunt her down and kill her now.

It's Will Smith! Will Smith presenting the award for Visual Effects! Will Smith presenting the award for Visual Effects to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button!

And he's presenting Sound Editing. To The Dark Knight.

Also, Sound Mixing. Slumdog Millionaire.

Still with Will for Editing. Slumdog Millionaire again.

Paul, this is not good enough. Neither of us has got any points for the last three awards.

I want to hit Stephanie Beacham in the face. Is that wrong?
